Martin Simmons Sweers was hired by Parkwood Seniors Community to design this new independent seniors-living apartment building in North Waterloo. The goal was to enhance the current campus and follow the continuum of care model. This resulting six-storey apartment building will provide the final phase of housing on this site. The development diversifies the seniors’ living continuum within the Parkwood Seniors Community adding an apartment building providing affordable housing options in this phase; this complements the existing long-term care facility, garden homes, and assisted living facility in Phases 1 through 3, respectively, of the Community.
The building connects to existing structures, promoting visual and social interaction. Collaborating with Parkwood, MSS improved apartments with features like Juliette balconies, walk-out balconies, contemporary finishes, and open floor plans. Common areas boast well-curated materials, enhancing the lobby, dining, and amenity spaces. Throughout construction, Parkwood shared their excitement, and MSS continued to provide ongoing services, ensuring every detail aligned with the plan. The result is a building Parkwood can showcase and be proud of.
