YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka

The new YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka features a series of alternating sloping roofs that create a playful and fluid composition that animates the street and references the movement and activities of the inhabitants within. Featuring low-intensity green roofs and façade shading louvres, the architecture strives to balance beauty and function. While the exterior is composed of cool tones of grey stone cladding, translucent glass, and white metal screens, the building’s interior will feature warm tones with its wood slat ceilings and glulam timber structure.

Having aged out of their existing facility, the new site and building will be a much-anticipated update for the City of Barrie. Positioned in the city’s core, the 75,000 sq. ft. YMCA will include a lap and leisure pool, fitness centre, public café, child care, a youth and seniors centre, as well as transitional housing and outreach support for youth.
